Exotic metal
Do you have niobium or a lot that may contain niobium? Send photos, weight, dimensions, application and documentation. We assess whether this is sufficient for an initial commercial indication or whether further identification is needed.

Lot forms
Niobium is less common as a standalone residual stream than many conventional metals. Material form, application, origin and documentation are therefore particularly important.
Material & application
Niobium can occur as specialist material, but it is also used as an alloying element in complex alloys and steels. Detecting niobium in an analysis therefore does not automatically make a component pure niobium.
For an unknown lot, production or equipment origin, part numbers, certificates and previous analysis can be valuable in establishing a realistic classification.
Identification
Niobium can be part of complex alloys. A trade name or visual similarity does not guarantee composition. Material certificates, part numbers and analysis data are valuable.
Niobium and tantalum can look similar to a non-specialist. Reliable sorting therefore requires more than visual comparison; keep suspected material separate until sufficient information is available.

A handheld XRF analyser can provide an indicative elemental composition for many metals and alloys. This supports sorting and commercial assessment; where certified laboratory analysis is required, we discuss this in advance.

Estimated weight and postcode help assess logistics.
Certificates, grade, origin and part numbers when available.
We advise what information, analysis or logistics are required.
Valuation
For niobium, the actual nature of the stream matters more than a general market quote. Purity, application and traceability determine how a lot can be assessed.
Niobium and niobium-bearing alloys are not the same commercial stream.
Certificates, part numbers and analysis data are particularly valuable for less common material.
Sheet, wire, bar and components have different practical handling needs.
Tantalum, steel or other alloys reduce clarity of the lot.
Quantity and continuity influence the economic and logistics approach.
The market for specialist niobium material is more specific than for common metals.
Practical questions
No. They are different elements and material streams, even though some forms can look similar.
Not automatically. The complete alloy composition determines how the material should be classified.
Yes. Send photos, weight, application and available documentation so we can determine the identification required.
Niobium is a specialist stream. Reliable origin and material records reduce the risk of incorrect classification.
