Exotic metal
We buy tantalum as sheet, foil, wire, bar, components and sorted production or cutting residues. You can also submit an unidentified heavy-metal lot for an initial assessment. For Benelux lots and international enquiries, we consider origin, material information, sorting and identification. Send photos, estimated weight and any markings or certificates for an initial assessment.

Lot forms
Tantalum may appear as solid pieces, thin sheet or foil, wire, bar and specialist components. For material that is difficult to recognise, origin and technical information become especially important.
Material & application
Tantalum is a refractory metal and can look similar to other grey specialist metals. Identifying an unknown piece purely by colour or feel is therefore unreliable.
Where material comes from known stock or an application, retain labels, certificates and part numbers. Keep suspected tantalum separate from tungsten, niobium and mixed metal residues until the composition is sufficiently clear.
Identification
Tantalum can be difficult to distinguish visually from other grey metals. Origin, dimensions, markings and analysis data are therefore useful. Avoid mixing an unknown lot before its composition is clear.
Dimensions, weight, origin and application can provide useful clues alongside analysis data. For specialist metals, controlled identification is preferable to visual sorting.

A handheld XRF analyser can provide an indicative elemental composition for many metals and alloys. This supports sorting and commercial assessment; where certified laboratory analysis is required, we discuss this in advance.

Estimated weight and postcode help assess logistics.
Certificates, grade, origin and part numbers when available.
We advise what information, analysis or logistics are required.
Valuation
Purity, traceability and mixing with other materials are particularly important. We therefore assess the actual lot rather than relying on a single headline price.
Pure tantalum and tantalum-bearing material are not the same commercial stream.
Traceable industrial or technical origin supports the initial assessment.
Foil, wire, bar, sheet and components have different handling requirements.
Other refractory or structural metals reduce clarity of the lot.
Weight and packing affect both analysis and logistics.
Demand and outlets for tantalum change over time.
Practical questions
Appearance alone is not sufficient. Origin, documentation, dimensions and, where necessary, material identification are important.
A mixed lot can be submitted, but separated material is easier to assess when the individual metals are reliably known.
Yes. Send photos, weight, application and any available material information.
Yes, it can be submitted. Feasibility depends on quality, quantity, location and any analysis or logistics required.
