Exotic metal
Do you have zirconium sheet, tube, bar, process components, heat-exchanger parts or production residues? Send photos, weight and material information. We assess whether it is metallic zirconium or a zirconium alloy and what next step is appropriate.

Lot forms
Zirconium is used where corrosion resistance and specific technical properties matter. Grade, origin and any alloying elements are therefore important when assessing residual lots.
Material & application
The name zirconium also appears in compounds and ceramic materials, but metallic zirconium and zirconium alloys are a different material stream from zirconium oxide (zirconia) or the mineral zircon.
Always state whether you have metal, an alloy, coating, ceramic product or unknown material. For metallic lots, grade, application and traceability are particularly valuable.
Identification
Appearance alone does not reliably distinguish zirconium from several other grey metals. Labels, certificates, material numbers and known application are therefore important.
XRF can provide indicative support when identifying zirconium-bearing material. For critical or high-value grades, including material where hafnium content is relevant, additional analysis may be required.

On suitable solid samples, handheld XRF can indicate zirconium and hafnium. For high-purity material, very low hafnium levels or critical specifications, additional laboratory analysis may be required; coatings and surface contamination can influence the reading.

Estimated weight and postcode help assess logistics.
Certificates, grade, origin and part numbers where available.
We advise what information, analysis or logistics are required.
Valuation
For zirconium, the actual metal form, grade, purity and traceability determine commercial assessment. We therefore distinguish metallic zirconium and alloys from other zirconium-containing products.
Metallic zirconium, zirconium alloy and zirconia/ceramic are different streams.
Alloying elements and specification determine the technical and commercial route.
Certificates, material numbers and known application support identification.
Solid sheet or tube differs from turnings, assemblies or contaminated residues.
Mixing with titanium, hafnium or other metals makes assessment more complex.
Weight, packaging, location and feasible processing form part of the proposal.
Practical questions
No. Zirconia is zirconium oxide and is a ceramic/chemical material stream. This page primarily concerns metallic zirconium and zirconium alloys.
You can submit sorted machining or production residues. State whether oil, coolant or other metals are present.
Zirconium and hafnium are chemically very similar. In certain high-specification zirconium grades, hafnium content can be part of the material specification.
Depending on quantity, location and the lot, logistics can be coordinated in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
