Exotic metal
Do you have hafnium metal, bar, sheet, electrodes, technical components or traceable production residues? Send photos, weight, location and available specifications. With this rare material, purity and reliable origin are particularly important.

Lot forms
Hafnium is a specialist metal used in limited quantities and often in high-value applications. Small differences in purity, alloy composition and origin can therefore significantly affect assessment.
Material & application
Hafnium naturally occurs with zirconium and the two elements have very similar chemical behaviour. In high-specification applications, however, the distinction between them can be technically important.
Keep certificates, purity data, product numbers and origin information. An unknown grey metal cannot be reliably identified as hafnium from appearance alone.
Identification
Hafnium is rare and its appearance is not unique. Certificates, analytical data, material numbers or a known technical application are therefore valuable.
XRF can provide indicative support when identifying hafnium and other heavy elements. For high purity, specific alloys or material where the zirconium/hafnium ratio is critical, laboratory analysis may be necessary.

On suitable solid samples, handheld XRF can help distinguish hafnium from zirconium-rich materials. For exact purity or critical Hf/Zr specifications, a handheld reading may not be sufficient and additional analysis can be required.

Estimated weight and postcode help assess logistics.
Certificates, grade, origin and part numbers where available.
We advise what information, analysis or logistics are required.
Valuation
For hafnium, purity, origin and material form can matter more than gross weight alone. We therefore assess each lot individually rather than publishing a generic hafnium price.
Pure hafnium and hafnium-bearing alloys are different material streams.
In certain applications, distinguishing zirconium from hafnium is essential.
Certificates, analytical figures and technical origin reduce uncertainty.
Bar, sheet, electrodes, fine residues and assembled components require different handling.
Foreign metals, coatings or unsorted residues influence assessment.
Lot size and available specialist outlets also form part of the assessment.
Practical questions
Appearance alone is not enough. Certificates, analytical data, material numbers and controlled identification are important.
No. They are different elements, although they are chemically very similar and commonly occur together.
You can also submit smaller traceable lots. Feasibility depends on purity, form, location and the analysis required.
XRF can indicate hafnium and other elements. Laboratory analysis may be required for precise purity or critical Zr/Hf specifications.
